Vermejo Park Ranch is situated in northern New Mexico in a remote location 40 miles west of Raton, NM. Most employment opportunities available at Vermejo Park are seasonal and run from April through December. Natural Resources Intern:
6 or 7 month position starting April/May 2010 at Vermejo Park Ranch.
Natural Resources Intern duties will be a diverse mix of natural resource
management tasks including: construction of low tech riparian restoration
structures (one rock dams, baffles and exclosure fencing), wildland fire
fighting, prescribed fire, invasive species control, ground and surface
water monitoring, repair of solar and windmill wells, range monitoring,
and other duties as assigned by supervisor. Individual must be self
reliant and work unsupervised. Must be able to lift 70 pounds and hike a
minimum of 2 miles without a break. Wildland fire fighting experience and
ability to pass the red card pack test is a plus. Pay
is $ 10.50 /hr. pus room and board. Vermejo

Duties include: lawn and flowerbed maintenance, sprinkler systems operation and repair, trash collection, firewood cutting, splitting, and hauling, various other ranch maintenance tasks.
